St. Urban

The parish church of St. Urban is a Roman Catholic sacred building in Tafertsweiler , a suburb of the municipality of Ostrach in the Baden-Württemberg district of Sigmaringen .

Building

The building consists of a long aisle structure with a bell tower and a pointed roof.

Bells

On July 12, 1891, the church council of the parish of Sankt Urban in Tafertsweiler consecrated the three bells weighing 14 hundredweight , donated by the Steurer siblings and manufactured by the company Fr. Blersch in Überlingen . The festive sermon was given by Father Lambert from Gorheim, and the Ostrach band played to celebrate the day. It is not known whether one or more bells were hanging on the tower of the church before this consecration. Tradition has it that at some point in the 19th century the parish of Sankt Luzia in Levertsweiler gave the parish a small bell that had been left over. The bells that were consecrated at the time had to be delivered during the First World War . It was not until 1928 that they were replaced and consecrated. Even these were not spared from being cast into cannons during World War II . An emergency bell was on duty from 1942 to 1959. It was not until 1959 that the parish acquired three new bells, the smallest of which was consecrated to the church patron Saint Urban, the middle to the Holy Mother of God, and the largest as the Christ bell to commemorate the fallen and missing from both World Wars by missionary bishop Augustin Olbert .

Monument protection

The church is listed in the register of immovable architectural and art monuments and the objects to be inspected by the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Monument Preservation in September 2000 and is protected according to Section 2 of the Baden-Württemberg Monument Protection Act.
