history

The St. Wilhelmer Hütte is one of the oldest cattle huts on the Feldberg and was built for the Herder in 1819 by St. Wilhelmer and Todtnauberger farmers. The so-called Herder manage the Black Forest alpine huts. In earlier times the herder had a shepherd who was responsible for the cattle. Today he alone takes on the management of the hut and the care of the animals. Thanks to well-developed roads and its own power connection, the St. Wilhelmer Hütte can now be lived in and operated by Herder and his family all year round.

tourism

The St. Wilhelmer Hütte mostly serves as a destination for numerous hikes in the Feldberg area (e.g. from Notschrei over the Stübenwasen ) and is also suitable as access to the Alpine Path , one of the highest hiking trails in the Black Forest , through the alpine terrain of the northern slopes of Feldberg and Stübenwasen, which is a specialty in the Black Forest due to its exposed location and its alpine character and runs below the hut from Hüttenwasen to Stübenwasen. It is also located on the Stübenwasenspur and can therefore be easily reached with cross-country skis from Notschrei or Feldberger Hof .
