The St. Willehad Chapel was a Catholic chapel in Cuxhaven , a district town in Lower Saxony . Most recently it belonged to the parish of St. Marien , based in Cuxhaven, in the Bremerhaven dean's office of the Hildesheim diocese . The chapel dedicated to St. Willehad was located in Grodener Chaussee 21. Today the parish church of St. Marien, just under two kilometers away, is the closest Catholic church.

history

In the 1950s, the parish Herz Jesu acquired the "Meyn'sche property". In 1956 or 1967 the St. Willehad chapel was set up in the attic of the former barn from 1892 on the property ; it had around 100 seats. Their benediction took place on August 25, 1967 . The building complex, which is around 2 meters above sea level , also housed a day-care center, the Spanish Center and a branch of Caritas .

On October 1, 2011, the chapel was profaned by the pastor of St. Marien , Christian Piegenschke. At the time of the profanation, it was planned that the Spanish parents' association in Cuxhaven (Asociacion de Padres de Familia de Cuxhaven y Alrededores eV), which already uses part of the building complex, would also take over the space of the previous chapel. The neighboring Catholic day care center in St. Willehad , for which a new building was built next to the Spanish Center in 1986, remained in operation.
