history

Its forerunners were a Schuilkerk (underground church) on Dorstige Hartsteeg from the 17th century and the temporary Silokerk on Herenstraat from 1842. Alfred Tepe designed a church that was taller and shorter than usual as the site was surrounded by other buildings was. The church was consecrated on June 21, 1877 by Archbishop Andreas Ignatius Schaepman .

Surname

Her name is dedicated to St. Willibrord , who was ordained the first bishop of Utrecht at the end of the 7th century .

Today's mass celebrations

In order to maintain the religious character of the building and to serve the large group of regular churchgoers in the parish, the Willibrord Stichting asked the Priestly Society of St. Pius X for help with pastoral care. After several visits and conversations, the first mass was celebrated on December 30, 2015 for the peace of mind of Father Kotte. Since 2016, the church has been used as a mission church for the region around Utrecht and is looked after by the priests of the FSSPX. They celebrate mass every Sunday in the old rite.

organ

The first organ was built in 1885 by the organ building workshop Stulting & Maarschalkerweerd as a two-manual instrument with 16  registers . The instrument was destroyed in a fire in 1905. The successor instrument was built by Michaël Maarschalkerweerd with 16 stops on two manuals and a pedal . In 1947 the organ case was removed and replaced by the Verschueren organ building workshop as part of a major overhaul of the organ with a modern pipe brochure . In 1997 the organ was restored and expanded by the Elbertse organ building workshop. Today the instrument has 29 stops on two manual works and a pedal. The actions are electromechanical.
