St Enoch Square Travel Center

The St Enoch Square Travel Center is a business building and former station building in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building originally provided access to the St Enoch underground station next to the former St Enoch train station . It was built in 1897 to a design by the Scottish architect James Miller . In the meantime the underground station has been modernized and provided with modern exits. The obsolete building was subsequently converted into a commercial building.

description

The St Enoch Square Travel Center is located in the middle of St Enoch Square south of Glasgow city center. The two-story building is designed in the style of the Flemish Neo-Renaissance . Striking tours with decorative pilasters and curved roofs protrude from all four building edges . The wide, arched entrance portal is located on the north facade . Ornate bezels frame the small flanking windows. Above that, a balcony is mounted on massive consoles . The sculptured gable is ornamented with acroteria . The clock is framed by a stylized aedicule in the triangular pediment. The other facades are designed in a similar way, but with simpler details. The final roofs are covered with slate.
