history
The clergyman James Stewart Gammell inherited the Drumtochty Castle mansion in 1881 . He had St Palladius Church built on the property until 1885. Gammell entrusted the planning to the architect Arthur Clyne , a partner in the architecture firm Pirie & Clyne . Originally planned as the estate's chapel, St Palladius Church is now open to everyone. It has largely been preserved in its original condition.
description
The church building is isolated in a valley around 700 m east of Drumtochty Castle and two kilometers northwest of Auchenblae. The neo-Gothic building takes up motifs from the Early English style . The hall church has a single nave . A transept leads off the south side. Its gable side is decorated with two lancet windows and a sculpture of Saint Palladius with a canopy . On the north side, however, there is the sacristy . Lancet windows are let into the rounded apse . A slender bell tower rises up in the inner corner between the transept and the choir . All roofs are covered with slate.
