St Stephen's and West Church

The St Stephen's and West Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish city of Dundee in the same council area . In 1965 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The design for the church building comes from the architect Thomas Saunders Robertson , who was himself a co-founder of the congregation. The Stefanskirche was opened on November 26th, 1871. In July 1875 the parish was removed from the parish of Broughty Ferry and Monifieth . In 1962, the congregation of St Stephen's Church merged with the congregation of Broughty Ferry West Church , resulting in today's St Stephen's and West Church.

St Stephen's and West Church is at the intersection of Westfield Road and Dundee Road . The cross basilica is designed in a neo-Gothic style. A wide tracery is let in above the pointed arched main portal with eyelash on the north facade . Two pointed arch portals lead into the narthex . Buttresses structure the facade. The four-story bell tower rises to the left. From the third section onwards, it is octagonal . The pointed arch openings of the fourth section close with a continuous cornice . The concluding pointed helmet is designed with hatches . Lancet windows stretch along the aisles . The east gable of the transept is designed with lancet windows and rose windows . The roof is covered with gray slate.
