history

The school was founded in 1955 as the Weißenburg State Middle School under the sponsorship of the city of Weißenburg. Classes began on October 10, 1955 with a boys 'and a girls' class with a total of 88 students. The premises were on the top floor of the Weißenburg Central School , in 1964 the move to the current premises in the school center took place . In 1965 the school was renamed Realschule. In 1969 the school was to be renamed Rudolf Nebel Realschule after the rocket pioneer Rudolf Nebel from Weißenburg . The Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs did not follow the application, as naming after living persons is not possible. Since then, only the main building has been called Rudolf Nebel Realschule . In 1973, following the dissolution of the district freedom of Weißenburg, the administrative district was responsible for material expenses for the school and invested around 10 million marks until 1995. In 1998 the extension building could be moved into and the renovation measures of the old building completed. In 2000, the six-level secondary school was introduced, whereby the number of pupils reached the limit of one thousand and the school building was again too small. In the 2009/2010 school year, the school had the highest number of students in its history with 984 students. On June 3, 2013, a support association was founded to provide better financial support for the school.

In 2014 the school achieved notoriety after the director Stephanie Bauer uttered the Nazi salute Sieg Heil in a competition , for which the school was in the national press. After paying 1,000 euros to the "round table against the law", investigations by the public prosecutor were discontinued, and in December 2014 the director announced her resignation for the end of the school year. The headmistress was controversial in the teaching staff.

School life

The Weißenburg Realschule has a busy school life. The school participates in the nationwide Coolrider project to train volunteers who ensure safety in public transport. The student company K4K imparts economic, a big band and a wind class musical skills to the students. The school's theater group received several awards, including the Bavarian school represented in the federal state school theater competition. The school has had a partnership with the Collége Jean Lurçat in Brive-la-Gaillarde in the Limousin since 2009 , with which there is a student exchange program.
