State funeral or four lessons in political community studies is an original audio play by Ludwig Harig from 1969. It was produced by Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR) and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) under the direction of Johann M. Kamps . Harig edited this radio play from the original word and audio material of the radio reports on the state funeral of Konrad Adenauer on April 25, 1967, which became a scandal in German radio history.

The 64-minute radio play is a collage of original sounds from the funeral ceremonies in honor of Konrad Adenauer. Only the actors of the event themselves have a say: politicians, clergy, keynote speakers and a radio reporter. The soundscape of noises, pieces of music and chants contrasts with the spoken texts. Harig did not add anything to the authentic tape recordings. Ludwig Harig describes in an unpublished manuscript how this radio play came about: “I heard and read these speeches and addresses and finally analyzed them in a certain way in order to find out what was actually said. My analysis was a linguistic analysis of this authenticity, and as with a scientific analysis, my task was to isolate the elements of a whole in order to test their nature. "

The reactions to the radio play ranged from great enthusiasm among those who saw phrases, pathos and pomposity made recognizable, to anger and anger among those who felt embarrassed by Harig's assembly technique. The outrage went so far with Franz Mai , director of the SR and former personal assistant of Adenauer, that he fought for a ban on the performance of this "cynical parody". He imposed a ban on any distribution of the radio play and prohibited the production of records.
