Klaus Ramm

Klaus Ramm (born November 15, 1939 in Hamburg- Altona) is a German literary scholar and publisher.

Life

Klaus Ramm studied German, philosophy, and psychology in Graz, Tübingen, Berlin, Kiel and Würzburg and received his doctorate in 1969 with a dissertation on Franz Kafka. From 1969 to 1972 he was lecturer for German-language literature at Hermann Luchterhand Verlag in Neuwied and Darmstadt, where, in collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon, he expanded the program to include a record series with readings, radio plays and phonetic poetry. After working as a research assistant at the newly founded University of Bielefeld, he taught there from 1976 to 2003 as a professor of literary studies, literary criticism and media studies; The focus of his work was the German literature of the 20th century, the visual and acoustic literature as well as the aesthetics and history of the radio play. He also worked as a literary critic for radio and television.

Ramm has been running a one-man publishing house with advanced literature since 1974 ( Carlfriedrich Claus , Gunter Falk , Hartmut Geerken , Jochen Gerz , Ludwig Harig , Franz Mon , Oskar Pastior ); For the program and the book design he received the ZEIT Prize for small publishers endowed with 50,000 DM in 1985.

Together with Jörg Drews and Hartmut Geerken, Ramm published the series Early Texts of Modernism from 1977 to 2012 with works by forgotten and lost authors of the early 20th century.

From 1978 to 2002 Ramm headed the Bielefeld Colloquium Neue Poesie (alternating with Jörg Drews) . From 1977 to 2009 he was a member and (from 1999) chairman of the jury of the Karl Sczuka Prize .

In 1992 he was a founding member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Leipzig. Klaus Ramm has been a member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg since 2012 . Until 2014 he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oskar Pastior Foundation , which he had set up from 2006 to 2008 based on a will from Oskar Pastior.
