State Opera and Ballet Krasnoyarsk is an opera house in Krasnoyarsk Siberia ( CIS ) that opened in 1978.

history

Opera performances in Krasnoyarsk were held on the stage of the city theater as early as 1897. The first works listed include Russalka by Alexander Dargomyschski , Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko , A Life for the Tsar by Michail Glinka , Askold's grave by Alexei Werstowski and Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo as well as several operettas .

Towards the end of 1924, amateurs established a troupe called the “Opera Labor Team”. The city approved opera performances in its (old) theater.

In 1977 the Ministry of Culture of the USSR decided to officially establish an opera institution in Krasnoyarsk. In 1978 a new building was built by the architect I. Mikhalev, which was opened on December 20, 1978 with Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin .

Over the years the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet has released more than eighty opera and ballet productions.

Since 1986 the theater has organized an international opera festival and the “Young Voices” singing competition.

The theater company has made guest appearances in Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, India, Italy, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, Taiwan, the USA and Cyprus.

Trivia

The Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky made his debut in the role of Marullo ( Rigoletto ) at the Krasnoyarsk State Opera .
