Rod anchor

A rod anchor describes a special component for fixing in construction.

Rod anchor with base plate

A rod anchor or rod ground anchor in horticulture, including in viticulture , attaches a trellis . To be more precise, its tensioning wire is then braced in the ground. The rod anchor is a special peg made of galvanized steel about 50 cm long with a diameter of about 1 cm. The rod anchor has a hook , a shaft and a short auger at the tip . It is set in the ground at the beginning and end of a line of a trellis in front of an embroidery at an acute angle of 75 ( degrees ).

If the assembly is carried out manually, a hole must be dug, especially in the case of stony ground or strong pulling forces. The base plate is placed in the ground at a depth of about 40 cm and the rod anchor rotated into the recess in the plate. The base plate serves as an abutment for the sheet metal of the auger piece and enlarges its bearing surface so that a larger volume of earth rests on it, which prevents the rod anchor from being pulled out. The hole dug for the rod anchor and the floor slab is to be filled gradually and should be well watered so that the soil structure above the slab is compacted . If the ground permits, the anchor can also be turned into the ground manually or by machine, for example with a gasoline or electric auger with a special attachment or with a hydraulic auger , which is available for excavators and tractors.

The anchor wire is led around the hook of the rod anchor to the end of the post end wood of the tensioning embroidery , which is fixed there with a square wire hook or a nail pin.

Rod anchor in civil engineering

Grout anchors , which are also available as rod anchors, are used to fasten components in civil engineering . Instead of the plate, it is anchored in the ground with cement mortar. For lighter loads, e.g. B. for a wooden sheet pile wall in sewer construction, the rod anchor described can also be used with auger disc , only with a thread instead of a hook.
