The Stadio Domenico Francioni is a football stadium in the Italian city of Latina . It offers space for a good 7,000 spectators and is the home of the US Latina association .

history

Construction of the Stadio Domenico Francioni in Latina , a town with around 120,000 inhabitants in the Lazio region , began in 1932. The start of construction falls on the same year as the start of construction of the city of Latina, which is the first planned city to emerge during the time of Italian fascism . Three years later, in 1935, the Stadio Domenico Francioni was completed; at the time of opening, the new venue was called Stadio Comunale di Latina . Such names were extremely common during the reign of Benito Mussolini , almost every municipal stadium was called Stadio Communale . After the Second World War it was given its current name, Stadio Domenico Francioni .

The Stadio Domenico Francioni has served the US Latina club as the venue for home football matches since 1945 . The US Latina did not get beyond the third Italian soccer league until 2013 and changed the club name several times in its club history. In the third division season 2012/13, however, the first promotion to Serie B succeeded somewhat surprisingly , after being able to prevail in playoff games for promotion initially against ASG Nocerina and in the final against AC Pisa . Thus, in the 2013/14 season , matches of the second highest division in Italian football took place for the first time in the Stadio Domenico Francioni .

The Stadio Domenico Francioni currently offers space for 7,191 spectators, with the actual capacity being 8,000. For security reasons, however, this has been reduced somewhat. In addition to the US Latina soccer games, other events have also taken place here in the past. For example, Deep Purple and Tiziano Ferro have already performed at concerts in the stadium in Latina, and a meeting between the Italian politician Giulio Andreotti and Pope John Paul II during his visit to Latina in 1991 recorded the stadium in its history.
