The stadium on Feuerbachstrasse is purely a football stadium in the Bilk district of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . With the surrounding sports facilities, it forms an important part of the Düsseldorf sports facility landscape. Since opening shortly after the end of the Second World War , it has been the home ground of the traditional Düsseldorf club TuRU Düsseldorf , which currently plays in the Oberliga Niederrhein . In addition, the American football club Düsseldorf Panther used the stadium as a home ground for a while. The stadium is accessed via the neighboring Düsseldorf Volksgarten S-Bahn station and the tram stop of the same name.

history

The location goes back to the former home ground of the TuRu, which had a capacity of 16,000 spectators in the immediate vicinity before the Second World War .

After the war, the stadium was built at its current location. At the time of its opening, it offered 13,000 spectators. Of these, 1,000 were covered seats and 12,000 were uncovered standing places. After a renovation in the 1980s, the number of spectator seats fell to 8,000. For this purpose, the back straight was reduced to a third of the height at that time, so that 5,000 seats were lost. Of the 8,000 seats available today, 1,200 are covered.

In addition, the entire sports facility has another artificial turf pitch and an ash pitch , which was converted into a natural grass pitch in June 2007 as part of the Sport Master Plan . All places have floodlights , the main place also has an electronic display board and a modern announcement system with 16 loudspeakers.

Events

The recent attendance record is 3,600 and comes from the 2003/2004 season of the Association. Opponents at that time were the amateurs of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . With a 1-0 win, TuRu Düsseldorf secured promotion to the football league .

The youth tournaments, which used to be held at Whitsun, were a meeting place for the international youth football elite. The number of spectators was correspondingly high and reached the mark of 10,000 spectators on one day of the tournament.

In 1993 the American football team Düsseldorf Panther celebrated its premiere in this stadium in the Eurobowl competition. The game against the London Olympians was lost 29:32. There were also other guest appearances by the Panthers, who played many of their home games in the Bundesliga here.

In addition, the next place was the home of the B-Kreisligisten NK Croatia 70 Düsseldorf, who joined TuRU Düsseldorf as the third team for the 2007/08 season.

Other facilities

In addition to the other sports fields, there is a sports hall in the immediate vicinity, which is used by the handball department of TuRu for their home games. The office of the West German Handball Association is also located in an adjacent building .
