Sparkassen-Rewe-Haus on Ohligser Marktplatz (from 2021)

A completely new Sparkasse branch is being built in the former Globus house on lower Düsseldorfer Strasse in the Ohligs district.

At the new location, which will be directly on the Ohligser Marktplatz, there is also a new Rewe supermarket and a new bakery branch. The new supermarket alone will have a sales area of over 2,100 m 2 . The supermarket and the bakery branch will be on the ground floor, as will the new Sparkasse branch with ATMs, bank statement printers and counter service with staff. On the upper floor there will be consulting rooms for savings bank customers and a large conference room that can also be used by Ohligser associations.

As a property owner, Solinger Sparkasse is investing around 20 million euros in the new location on Ohligser Marktplatz.

The two old Ohligser Sparkasse branches (Grünstraße and Bremsheyplatz) will be closed in 2021. The future branch on Ohligser Marktplatz will be the largest Sparkasse branch in Solingen after the main branch in Solingen-Mitte. An underground car park with over 90 parking spaces serves as a parking facility for customers and employees. The future Sparkassen-Rewe-Haus is scheduled to open in February 2021.

"We are planning a modern office that extends over two floors."

- Stefan Grunwald (CEO of the Stadt-Sparkasse Solingen)

New headquarters in Solingen-Mitte (from 2023)

The current head office on Kölner Strasse in Solingen-Mitte will be replaced by a new building in the immediate vicinity. On the property between Peter-Knecht-Straße and Max-Leven-Gasse, the new head office will have its place of business from summer 2023. The main entrance is to be directly opposite the C&A branch. At least 350 bank employees are to work in the new Sparkasse headquarters. Just as much as in today's main office on Kölner Strasse. The new Sparkasse building reduces operating costs by around 50% compared to the old building on Kölner Strasse. Once the new building is in place, the old head office will be demolished from 2024. Around 100 rental apartments are to be built on the Kölner Straße property. The Solinger Sparkasse wants to keep these rental apartments in its own portfolio. A jury decided on a design by the Stuttgart architects Auer and Weber. The building with 9,800 m² of usable space is divided into three areas, each with its own inner courtyard. This means that the Sparkasse will only use half as much space in the new building as in the current main office on Kölner Straße. There should only be individual offices for a few managers.

As a property owner, Solinger Sparkasse is investing around 80 million euros in the new location on Neumarkt in Solingen-Mitte.

The majority of the 350 employees will work in open-plan offices. The financial company will not use 800 m² of office space for the time being and will rent it out externally. It is intended as a buffer area in case the Solinger Sparkasse should need more staff again in the future. The new building in Solingen-Mitte will be five stories high and have its own underground car park with over 150 parking spaces and around 50 bicycle parking spaces. The underground car park should be available for customers and employees. In the rear area of the building, 29 new apartments will be built, which are intended in particular for single and two-person households. The move from the previous main office is to take place in the summer of 2023.

“We can establish efficient work processes and modern working environments through an optimized building layout and offer our customers and employees a completely new quality of stay. At the previous location we would not have been able to remedy the structural disadvantages of the complicated property despite high investments. "

- Stefan Grunwald (CEO of the Stadt-Sparkasse Solingen.

Max Leven Center in the future headquarters of the Solinger Sparkasse (from 2023)

In the future headquarters of the Solinger Sparkasse, the Nazi victim Max Leven (1882–1938) is also remembered. The new headquarters will integrate the 150 m² Max Leven Center in Solingen. The Max Leven Center is intended to serve as an educational and memorial site and bring the public closer to the various aspects of persecution and resistance during the Nazi era .

Background: During the pogrom night from November 9th to 10th, 1938, the Solingen journalist Max Leven was murdered by fanatical National Socialists in his apartment (at today's Max-Leven-Gasse 6). Bedridden Max Leven, who was particularly hated by leading Nazi officials in Solingen as a Jew and a communist , was shot with a pistol in the presence of his family. However, the Nazi perpetrators remained at large until 1949.
