Several structures had to be demolished for the construction of the building. There were major discussions about the felling of some trees, etc. a. a cedar tree . The necessary felling of trees and the demolition of the Protestant parish hall triggered the first referendum in the city of Düren. There were protests in the run-up to the referendum. After the electoral process, manipulations were proven, which in one case led to a conviction with a penalty order. The referendum was unsuccessful, but the cedar natural monument was integrated into the outdoor area. The first multi-storey car park in Düren was integrated into the StadtCenter.

The opening took place on September 8, 2005 after only one year of construction. Around 300 new jobs were created.
