Eickel (municipality)

Eickel is a district in the southwest of the city of Herne and has 34,642 inhabitants. It includes the districts of Röhlinghausen , Eickel and also Wanne-Süd . Despite its name, Wanne-Süd is almost completely on the old Eickel district.

Until 1974, Eickel (see Herne-Eickel ) and Wanne formed the independent city of Wanne-Eickel , which merged with Herne as part of the regional reform.

District Mayor is Martin Kortmann (2016).
