The Stadtmuseum Einbeck (formerly Städtisches Museum Einbeck ) is a museum of the Lower Saxony city of Einbeck . The focus is on the history of Einbeck and the history of the bicycle.
location
The museum is located north of Tiedexer Straße between the Marktkirche St. Jacobi and the Münsterkirche St. Alexandri .
architecture
The three-storey building was built in 1548 by the city's patricians using a half-timbered construction. On the east side, a bay window closes off a hall from the outside. Several dormers have been preserved in the eaves gable roof . On the facade there is an abundance of carved ornaments with a fan rosette, braided ribbon, foliage stick and curtain arch. In the 19th century, windows in the style of classicism were used in the construction of the Weser Renaissance. The museum is divided into several cabinets which are spread over three floors.
history
A first museum exhibition on the history of the city of Einbeck was opened in 1894 in the St. Spiritus chapel south of the market square . In 1932 it was moved to the former Gendarmerie school east of the Old Synagogue until the school building was confiscated by the Wehrmacht in 1938.
The museum was opened in the current building in 1970. The house was recognized as a registered museum in 2008 . In 2011, a space was set up in the museum for Patschkau to commemorate the displaced people who settled in Einbeck after the Second World War. The Einbeck City Archives are also located in the building.
Exhibitions
The museum's permanent exhibitions cover the following topics:
- Archeology and Middle Ages in the city of Einbeck

- History of blueprint
- History of the Einbeck coins that were in circulation from 1430 to 1674
- History of the pharmacies founded by Friedrich Sertürner in Einbeck
- History of the bicycle. This exhibition, which opened in 2006, continues the tradition of the Einbeck Bicycle Museum under the name RadHaus , which had previously existed in Einbeck on Papenstrasse. The development of the bicycle from the balance bike to its widespread use in everyday life is shown in rooms that are spread over two floors . The further development with the motorization of the bicycle is shown in the PS store west of the Tiedexer Straße .
