The City Museum Kröpelin is a city history museum which is managed by the City of Kröpelin together with the City Library and the Ostrock Museum . In a permanent exhibition it shows exhibits on the town history of Kröpelin, such as an old shoemaker's workshop, document or guild shop, traditional costumes and everyday objects. The museum sees itself as an adventure museum . Numerous interactive stations, drawers, flaps, rotating panels and showcases allow visitors to explore and discover the history of Kröpelin. The concept for the redesign of the museum in 2010 was developed in collaboration with the Rostock-based graphic design agency, Grafik @ genten .

history

After the 700th anniversary of the city of Kröpelin in 1949, for which numerous objects were brought together for an exhibition in Haase's hotel , the city decided to open a home parlor. For this purpose, a room was made available in the town hall until 1953. When the room was to be used for other purposes, Pastor Johannes Burghardt made rooms available for storing items in the parish.

On October 4, 1953, the Heimatmuseum was opened after merging with the bookstore in the southern porch of the church.

The next move of the museum took place in 1980 in the annex of the culture house. On June 27, 1980 it was reopened as the Bölkenhufen Heimatstube.

In 1981 the master painter Georg Böckenhauer was entered in the "Book of Honor of the District" for his extraordinary services to the preservation of the museum.

Historical documents are deposited in the capsule of the steeple in 1976. On the picture Georg Böckenhauer.

At the end of 1996 there was another move to the town hall.

On September 14, 2006, the Kröpelin city council meeting decided to renovate and modernize the building at Hauptstrasse 5. It was planned to use it for the city library, the city museum and a magazine / archive. After the work was completed, the city museum was reopened in the new rooms on May 28, 2010.

Admission to the City Museum also entitles you to visit the Ostrock Museum, which opened in 2015 in the same building.
