The Kröpelin City Library is a public library that is managed by the City of Kröpelin together with the City Museum and the Ostrock Museum . It is located on the ground floor of the building at Hauptstrasse 5 and has a stock of approx. 12,000 media.

history

Following a resolution by the city council on September 10, 1924 and the associated provision of 300 Reichsmarks to purchase books, the public library was opened in the Kröpelin school building on November 5, 1924.

After the Second World War , the holdings were also heavily decimated as a result of the purge of Nazi literature. The public library was reopened on December 2, 1946 in the building Wismarsche Straße 2 with a stock of only 715 volumes on an area of 12 m 2 .

Announcement by the Kröpelin City Council on November 19, 1949

As a result of the conversion of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania into three administrative districts on July 25, 1952 and the associated restructuring of the GDR's library system by the Ministry of Culture , the public library was renamed the city library in 1954.

By 1980 the library holdings increased to 12,395 books and 413 records. In the 1980s, the Kröpelin City Library took over the function of a central library for the “cooling” community association with nine community libraries. At the end of 1998, the company moved to the former building of the Sparkasse in Hauptstrasse 5.

As part of the project “Media Competence Centers in Libraries”, the city library was equipped in 2001 with a media room with PC workstations with internet access.

On September 14, 2006, the Kröpelin city council meeting decided to renovate the building at Hauptstrasse 5 and to use the ground floor for the library, the first floor for the city museum and the second floor for a magazine / archive. After the renovation of the building from 2008 to 2010 and the reopening of the library on January 6, 2010, a winter garden and an inner courtyard are also available for events and readings.

Since November 4, 2015, the Kröpelin City Library has been participating in the online loan network of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and enables digital media to be borrowed via the Internet.
