The Ostrockmuseum Kröpelin was opened on July 3, 2015. It is the first and so far (as of 2015) only museum in Germany that deals exclusively with the history of Ostrock as part of the popular music of the GDR and the former brother countries in Eastern Europe.

history

One of the foundations for the museum is the fund of the Berlin association “Sechzig-Vierzig”, which has been trying for years to present its collection in a permanent location. After several years of efforts, the association's collection was handed over to the Ostrockmuseum on April 26, 2013.

The opening took place on the occasion of the 20th Dorfrock on July 3, 2015. The exhibition concept was developed with the participation of the Interior Design and Communication Design and Media courses at the University of Wismar .

organization

The Ostrock Museum is administered by the City of Kröpelin together with the City Library and City Museum . The design and maintenance of the collection is the responsibility of a three-person board of trustees, consisting of Reinhard Dankert , Rüdiger Kropp and Thomas Lehner.

Admission to the Ostrock Museum entitles you to visit the city museum in the same building.

Conception

The Ostrock Museum is an interactive adventure museum and gives the visitor an insight into the history and background of Ostrock. The history of Ostrock is revealed on a tour of the museum as a mixture of information, media and experience. This also includes events and broadcasts such as Frank's Beatkiste on October 25, 2015, which are carried out in cooperation with the Ostrockmuseum.

Due to the large number of existing objects and the spatial limitation of one floor, it was decided against a chronological presentation of the history of Ostrock. Instead, a thematic area is presented in each room, into which existing objects and information are integrated.

Thematic areas

Thematic areas of the museum are:

Record shop
furniture and offers of a typical record shop in the GDR are shown. In addition to multimedia information, there is the possibility of playing and listening to long-playing records. Various devices for playing tapes and long-playing records are exhibited. The mural shows a typical scene from everyday life in the GDR . When long-playing records were on sale, long queues formed in front of the shops. The picture shows one in front of the shop at Kröpeliner Straße 13 in Rostock in the mid-1980s.

Performance situation and recording studio
In the area of a built-up stage, instruments and stage technology typical of Ostrock are presented and information on performance conditions for musicians in the GDR is given. In a modeled recording studio, the path of music from the studio to the radio in the GDR or to the Amiga record label, including the recording technology used in the GDR for this, is shown.

Cultural Office
The political influence in the field of light music by the cultural functionaries appointed by the SED in the GDR is discussed.

Chronicle
Important events relating to popular music from 1945 to the end of the GDR in 1990 are presented in the international context of politics and culture.

Dorfrock
The story of the Dorfrock in Schmadebeck , which has been held since 1996, is told, a small community belonging to Kröpelin, which maintains the tradition of Ostrock with this annual festival. In addition to the utensils of the various bands that performed at Dorfrock, a multimedia presentation of all the events that have taken place since 1996 is shown.
