Gisbert Piatkowski grew up in the GDR and began his public career as a guitarist with the band Klosterbrüder , which was founded in 1963 and which renamed itself to Magdeburg in 1975 after its license was revoked and the cast was changed . For the LP Magdeburg published in 1980 Piatkowski composed the pieces Harte Tage and Roter Wein . He became better known to a wider audience in 1980 when he joined the band City . With this band he released the English-language LP Dreamer in 1980 and the single Efkaristo / Abschied in 1981 , for which Piatkowski composed the title track. When internal tensions arose in the band in 1981, Piatkowski and the bass guitarist Georgi Gogow, who joined City in 1974, left the band and founded the band NO 55 in December 1981 .

NO 55 released the LP Kopf oder Zahl in 1983 , on which Piatkowski had co-composed the piece Good bye, old time ( GDR annual hit parade 1983: 37th place). At that time the band was temporarily called Enno. In addition to his engagement in these bands, Piatkowski took part in all-star projects, such as the Gitarreros project, which was founded in 1986 on the occasion of the “ Rock for Peace ” campaign , in which twelve musicians took part. The musicians released the LP It's Only Rock'n'Roll - Die Gitarreros live in concert , on which Piatkowski not only played the guitar , but also sang the title Kurzschluss . In May 1989 the LP Stormy Spring was released by the Mama Blues Project . This is another all-star release, in which 16 musicians took part in addition to Piatkowski.

In 1990 Piatkowski joined the Modern Soul Band , which he still belongs to today. In 2007 he also succeeded the fatally injured Heinz Prüfer as guitarist with the Klaus Renft Combo . He also occasionally performs as a guest musician with the band Magdeburg, which was re-established in 1992 (since 2000: Klosterbrüder) and the band Kellergeister, which has existed since 1964.
