Theodor Rowehl (born February 9, 1894 in Barstede , † June 6, 1978 in Münster ) was a German Air Force officer , most recently a colonel .

He was the commander of the long-range reconnaissance group of the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force ( AufklGrp OB der Lw ). The so-called Squadron Rowehl or Command Rowehl , through its photographic reconnaissance of Soviet territory, carried out important preparatory work for Operation Barbarossa , the attack on the Soviet Union .

On September 27, 1940, he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for his services as lieutenant colonel and commander of the Rowehl squadron .

In the spring of 1943 he was relieved of his position as commander of the "Experimental Center for High-altitude Flights", which he had headed from 1939, and in 1944 he was released. After 1945 he worked in the Republic of South Africa with topographical tasks for the local government.
