City Tower (Fischamend)
The city tower , also known as the market tower and fish tower , is the landmark of the Lower Austrian town of Fischamend and was built in the Middle Ages. After a fire in 1834 a renovation took place and it largely received its present appearance. Until 1927 the almost 31 m high tower served as a community room and night watchman's apartment and has been used as a local museum ever since.
history
The distinctive landmark that defines the townscape was built around 1050 as a border and watchtower under Emperor Heinrich III. built. In the 17th century the tower was increased by the two octagonal floors. Under Emperor Charles VI. the road that led to Hungary was regulated. In 1728, the tower was broken through for the road through and was redesigned to the gate tower on the new bridge. After a fire in 1834, the landmark was renovated and largely retained its current appearance; Another renovation took place in 1896, which was documented by the inscription on the tower. The tower served as a community room and night watchman's apartment until 1927 and was then used as a local museum. In 1945 the local museum was looted and after a renovation or restoration of the tower, the museum of local history was opened in 1953.
In 1978, Bundesstrasse 9 (Hainburger Strasse / Wiener Strasse) was relocated, so that the city tower has been bypassed since then.

The three lower floors consist of quarry stone masonry with corner blocks and strip cornices . Above the third floor at the corners obelisk from blocks.
