The Stadtwerke Langen GmbH are the regional utility of the city of Langen and the municipality Egelsbach . In addition to the supply of natural gas, electricity, heat and water, they are also responsible for city bus transport.
history
The story goes back to 1908, when the gas supply started with the construction of the gas works in Liebigstrasse. In 1924 the electricity supply was added. 34 years later, in 1958, local public transport began with the opening of a bus route. In 1963 Stadtwerke Langen GmbH was founded by renaming it to a GmbH. The West waterworks was inaugurated in 1964. 16 years later, in 1980, the water supply of the municipality of Egelsbach was taken over and in 1984 the natural gas supply of the municipality of Egelsbach. In the same year, the heating plant of the American housing estate in Langen-Neurott was taken over. In 1989 the power supply of the Egelsbach community was taken over. In 1996 the company moved to the Stadtwerketurm on Weserstraße. In 2005 the new elevated water tank on Steinberg was put into operation. In 2013 the first charging station in Langen was opened on the company premises, and in 2015 the first public charging station in Egelsbach (Georg-Wehsarg-Straße (east side of the train station)). The heating division is growing continuously, so that the Steubenstrasse heating center (2015) and the Am Belzborn heating center (2016) were most recently connected to the grid. In 2017, two more public charging stations were connected to the grid. In 2019, the heating center “Elisabeth-Selbert-Allee Nord” integrated into a noise protection wall was put into operation.
