The Stadtwerke Oelsnitz / V. GmbH is a German electricity and gas supplier in Oelsnitz in the Vogtland district .
The aim of Stadtwerke Oelsnitz is a secure and stable energy supply, the expansion of the line network and the further assumption of urban tasks as a contribution to environmental protection . These tasks stand against the background of the liberalization of the gas and electricity market.
history
Stadtwerke Oelsnitz / V. GmbH was founded on June 30, 1993 on the basis of a city council resolution of the city of Oelsnitz from 1992. Archive records show a much longer history of the municipal utilities and go back to the turn of the century, when a municipal electricity works and a municipal gas works were responsible for supplying the population.
In December 1993 the boiler house was put into operation. Shortly afterwards, the employees for the district heating supply were taken over by the city administration . On January 1, 1995, the Stadtwerke took over the gas supply from Erdgas Südsachsen GmbH, and on January 1, 1996 the building yard from the city administration. On July 1, 1998, Stadtwerke Oelsnitz took over supplying its citizens with electricity. In 1999 the city of Oelsnitz transferred the street lighting and traffic safety to the municipal utilities. In January 2002 the municipal pool was added and in 2003 the caretaker service and the support of the sports facilities. Today the company has around 50 employees.

Power grid in Oelsnitz
With the liberalization of the energy market, the municipal utilities were given the opportunity to offer electricity outside of their own network area. The city of Oelsnitz is supplied with electrical energy via a distribution network of around 73 km of medium-voltage and 115 km of low-voltage cables; 80 transformer stations are used to power all Oelsnitz citizens as well as commercial and industrial companies; a total of around 8,500 customers are supplied. The photovoltaic systems at the Elstergarten open-air swimming pool and in the Oelsnitz middle school also produce part of the electricity in an environmentally friendly manner.

Gas network in Oelsnitz
In 1995 the municipal utilities took over the supply of the citizens of Oelsnitz, the local businesses and the newly established industrial companies with natural gas . At the time of the takeover, mainly households that used the natural gas for cooking were supplied. Today more than 50% of the natural gas is supplied to industrial and commercial customers. A large part of the remaining natural gas is used by private customers for heating purposes, for hot water preparation and for cooking.
In order to be able to adequately supply all customers, three transfer stations and 17 pressure control systems are installed in the supply area. These keep the gas pressure in the utility network at a constant pressure level. The gas is distributed over 14 km of high pressure lines, 13 km of medium pressure lines, 51 km of low pressure lines and almost 2,000 house connections to more than 2,500 customers and is fed to the individual consumption points. More than half of all gas lines have been renewed. The pipe material used was exclusively PE 100 . The last gray cast iron pipes at risk of breaking were shut down several years ago.

Heat supply in Oelsnitz
With the commissioning of the heating plant in 1993, the basis for an energy-saving and thus environmentally friendly supply of heat and hot water was created. This supplies the new development areas Otto-Riedel-Straße and Adolf-Damaschke-Straße as well as several public institutions. 15 individual stations in the city of Oelsnitz also provide heat and hot water in public facilities and residential buildings. In September 2007 a local heating network was put into operation, which supplies the middle school and its ancillary facilities, the elementary school and the Katharinenkirche with solar heat in addition to heating technology.

Concession and coverage areas
On July 1, 2012, the basic supplier for the network area of Stadtwerke Oelsnitz for electricity and gas was determined. After evaluating the data, it was determined that the basic supply from January 1, 2013 for the next three years by Stadtwerke OELSNITZ / V. GmbH is carried out. This applies to household customers according to § 23 EnWG and their supply according to general conditions and general prices in low voltage and low pressure in the network area of Stadtwerke OELSNITZ / V. GmbH.
Municipal energy service company Südsachsen mbH (KES)
KES is a company of Stadtwerke Meiningen GmbH, Stadtwerke OELSNITZ / V. GmbH, Stadtwerke Olbernhau GmbH, Stadtwerke Schneeberg GmbH and Stadtwerke Werdau GmbH. The cooperation partners are Stadtwerke Schkeuditz GmbH. The company is based in Schneeberg . With the liberalization of the energy markets in 1998, the municipal utilities relied on entrepreneurship and thus independence and group freedom.
The company jointly buys electricity and gas on the European market and on the Paris and Leipzig stock exchanges. Four dealers and portfolio managers ensure the lowest possible risk of procurement and optimization. The data center guarantees all business and energy management requirements as an independent market participant. A fixed telecommunication data connection ensures access for the group's municipal utilities.
The company also works together on projects such as the first German petrothermal deep geothermal project in crystalline rock. The KES-Stadtwerke support their region through donations, sponsoring and marketing activities.
Renewable energy
Elstergarten outdoor pool
Between 2004 and 2006, the Oelsnitz outdoor pool was extensively reconstructed and redesigned. The result is the Elstergarten outdoor pool. The overall concept uses a photovoltaic system of 2,500 m² to secure income from electricity generation and feed-in. The bath water is also tempered by a small combined heat and power unit . In addition to this business premise, it was necessary to put an extraordinary design concept into practice. So sport, nature as well as art and culture should be brought to a common denominator. And all of this while retaining the old changing rooms, which date back to the first years of the last century.
Middle School Oelsnitz
The photovoltaic system on the roof of the middle school Oelsnitz consists of 58 solar modules with a total output of 9,200 watts and an annual output of over 10,000 kWh. This corresponds to the annual requirement of five households or the electrical energy required by 60 PCs. The service life of the modules is at least 30 years. During this time, 30,000 liters of heating oil and almost 80 tons of CO 2 are expected to be saved.
education
Stadtwerke Oelsnitz trains plant mechanics , industrial clerks and electronics technicians for industrial engineering .
