The Stadtwerketurm is a 200 meter high chimney from Stadtwerke Duisburg AG in Duisburg , on the edge of the city center in the Dellviertel district . It consists of four pipes that, unlike other chimneys, are not hidden inside a reinforced concrete or similar structure, but are open. Three of these pipes are used to discharge the flue gases from the Hochfeld thermal power station (HKW I & HKW II & Heizwerk), the fourth pipe contains an elevator. The Stadtwerketurm, built in 1966/67, is a striking building in Duisburg and is one of the city's landmarks.

Since November 1999 the Stadtwerketurm has been illuminated with green spotlights as darkness falls. Thus, this tower is visible far beyond the city limits at night.

Duisburg's red light district is located in the vicinity of the Stadtwerketurm, especially on Vulkanstrasse.

Between June 30 and July 24, 2005, the tower shone with the help of strips of lights and large spotlights in the colors of the World Games (blue, red, yellow and green). For MSV Duisburg's promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2004/05 and 2006/07 seasons, the tower shone in the club colors white and blue for several weeks.

At the end of 2012, the forty-year-old combined heat and power plant II in Hochfeld was shut down because it no longer complies with the stricter emission control regulations that will apply from 2013 and, according to the operator, a modernization with costs of 8 million euros would not be economical. In the course of the dismantling of the power station, the entire Stadtwerketurm was to be dismantled, but this was not possible due to monument protection reasons. From July 2016 to November 2017, the flue gas pipes were dismantled. The base and the steel beams have remained. The light unit was deactivated in May 2016 because the tubes were bent back. The tower, which has now been completed, has been illuminated in green again since December 6, 2018.
