The Danish Church on Sylt

Staldkirken (German: Stallkirche ) is a church building of the Evangelical Danish Church in South Schleswig ( Danish Dansk Kirke i Sydslesvig ) on the island of Sylt (Danish Sild ). The church and pastorate are set up in a Friesenhof from 1780 not far from the city center of Westerland , hence the name Stallkirche.

history

There has been a Danish community on Sylt since 1948 ( Den danske menighed på Sild ). A Friesenhof not far from the center of Westerland has been used as a pastorate since 1952. In the early years, services were held in the Danish island schools in Hörnum , Keitum , Westerland and List . After extensive renovation work, the stable building next to the pastorate was inaugurated as a church space, which has since been the center of the island community.

The church interior is relatively simple. As in other Scandinavian churches, there is a communion bench in front of the altar for taking part in the Lord's Supper . Since Easter 1993 the church has also had a six-part organ , which comes from the P. Bruhn & Søn workshop in Rødekro . The bell stack was inaugurated three years later . The church itself does not have a steeple to this day. The courtyard itself is thatched and surrounded by a frieze wall.

The parish is part of the Danish Church in South Schleswig. This is an association of several Danish Evangelical Lutheran congregations in southern Schleswig and does the church work for the Danish southern Schleswig . The communities in southern Schleswig are organizationally subordinate to the Haderslev Monastery.
