Stanley Thatcher Blake
Stanley Thatcher Blake (born 1910 in Queensland , † February 24, 1973 in Brisbane , Queensland) was an Australian botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " STBlake ".
Early years
Stanley Thatcher Blake was born in Queensland in 1910 (according to other sources also in 1911). He studied botany at the University of Queensland , where he obtained his B.Sc. (Bachelor of Sciences) and in 1934 the title M.Sc. (Master of Sciences).
Working life
From 1935 to 1937 Blake collected plant material from western Queensland on various expeditions for the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute . In 1939 he investigated the possibilities of growing plants in Queensland from which natural rubber can be extracted.
In 1945 he was employed as a botanist at the Queensland Herbarium in Brisbane , where he later also became chief botanist. In this capacity he was the first to describe the eucalyptus species Eucalyptus porrecta in 1953 . In 1956 he was awarded the title D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) awarded. In 1965 he was appointed "Australian Botanical Liaison Officer" at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew , United Kingdom . He stayed with the Queensland Herbarium until his death in 1973.

Blake died in Brisbane on February 24, 1973 at the age of 63.
Honors
In 1929 Jesús González Ortega named the species Pereskiopsis blakeana J.G. Ortega from the cactus family (Cactaceae) after him .
