Stanley Woodward Davenport

Stanley Woodward Davenport (born July 21, 1861 in Plymouth , Luzerne County , Pennsylvania , †  September 26, 1921 there ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Stanley Davenport attended public schools in his home country as well as Wyoming Seminary . He then studied until 1884 at Wesleyan University in Middletown ( Connecticut ). After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1890, he began to work in Plymouth in this profession. In 1893 he became director, secretary, and treasurer of the Luzerne County Poor Care. From 1894 to 1897 he was a notary for wills there. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1898 Davenport was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Morgan B. Williams on March 4, 1899 . Since he was not confirmed in 1900, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1901 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Davenport practiced as a lawyer again. He died on September 26, 1921 in his native Plymouth.
