Morgan B. Williams (born September 17, 1831 in Carmarthenshire , Wales , †  October 13, 1903 in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Morgan Williams attended public schools in his home country. In 1856 he moved to Australia , in August 1861 he returned to his homeland in Welsh. In March 1862 he settled in Scranton (Pennsylvania) and worked there in the coal mining industry. From 1865 he lived in Wilkes-Barre. For 14 years he was superintendent ( superintendent ) of the company Lehigh & Wilkes-Barre Coal Co. He sat for twelve years on the local city council and on the school committee. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1884 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . He was a member of a commission of his State of the World's Fair in Chicago .

In the congressional elections of 1896 , Williams was elected in the twelfth constituency of Pennsylvania to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded John Leisenring on March 4, 1897 . Since he was not confirmed in 1898, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1899 . This was shaped by the events of the Spanish-American War of 1898 .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Morgan Williams worked in the coal industry. He became vice president and manager of Red Ash Coal Co. He died on October 13, 1903 in Wilkes-Barre.
