John Leisenring

John Leisenring (born June 3, 1853 in Ashton , Carbon County , Pennsylvania , †  January 19, 1901 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Leisenring attended the public schools in his home country, Schwartz's Academy in Bethlehem and two other schools in New Jersey . He later became a civil and mining engineer. He got into the coal, iron and wood business and then also worked in the banking industry. In 1885 he moved to Upper Lehigh . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1894 and 1895 .

In the congressional elections of 1894 Leisenring was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of his state , where he succeeded the Democrat William Henry Hines on March 4, 1895 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1896, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1897 . In 1896 he took part as a delegate to the Republican Congress for Pennsylvania.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Leisenring resumed his previous activities. He also became president of Upper Lehigh Coal Co. He died in Philadelphia on January 19, 1901 and was buried in Mauch Chunk .
