The Stansbury Peninsula is a peninsula at the north end of Nelson Island in the Archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies between Edgell Bay and Fildes Strait .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1978 after Michael Johnn Stansbury (* 1934) of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey , meteorologist in Grytviken (1958-1959) and station manager in Admiralty Bay (1959-1960). Scientists on a Polish expedition named it Wzgórze Helikoptera (Polish for helicopter hill ; English Helicopter Hills ) after the helicopter landings carried out here between 1980 and 1981 .
