Stanton Davis

Stanton Davis (born November 10, 1945 in New Orleans ) is an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player.

Davis studied at the New England Conservatory of Music until 1973 . In the early 1970s he directed Ghetto Mysticism , a jazz-funk group with which he performed in New England and New York, and recorded the album Brighter Days .

He then worked with jazz musicians like George Gruntz , Jim Pepper , Bob Stewart , David Murray , Muhal Richard Abrams , Sam Rivers , Gil Evans , Webster Lewis , Jaki Byard and Max Roach and with bands like The Mercer Ellington Orchestra , The Lionel Hampton Orchestra , George Russell's Living Time Orchestra , Mongo Santamaría 's Orchestra , Mario Bauzá & His Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra , Lester Bowie 's Brass Fantasy and the Liberation Music Orchestra of bassist Charlie Haden . In David Sanborn's NBC telecast Night Music , he appeared as a soloist.

He also played the trumpet in soundtracks to films such as An American Dream and The Virgin Island Adventure, and played the piano in various television and Broadway shows. He has also performed at concerts and festivals with Jon Lucien , Al Cooper , the Four Tops , Lou Rawls , David Ruffin , The Dells , Gladys Knight , Stevie Wonder , Marvin Gaye , the Tavares and others. From 1980 to 1988 he worked as a music teacher at Jazzmobile . In 1988 he released the album Manhattan Melody with Enja with his own compositions.
