The Stanwix peak is 2,242 m high and prominent mountain in the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Bowers Mountains it towers over the southern flank of the head end of the Astapenko Glacier .
The mountain served as a benchmark for survey work carried out in 1962 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . Participants on this research trip named him after their helicopter pilot John Stanwix.
