Stari Grad Žumberački is a village in the Croatian Žumberak .

The village of Stari Grad Žumberački is located in the Croatian region of the southern Žumberak Mountains on the Draga ridge , with an altitude of 420 m and the Kekić with a height of 550 m above sea level. The next village, which is also the district of the Žumberak community, Kostanjevac, is 15 km to the northwest. Territorially, the village is part of the Zagreb County .

history

The village of Stari Grad Žumberački was founded in the 9th century as a town-like fortress Žumberak. The fortifications that can be found testify to this today.

In the 12th century the fortress was owned by the Sichelberger clan , who were given the title of Duke in the 14th century in the Habsburg Empire . When the village was taken over as a fortress by the Uskoks between the 15th and 16th centuries , it had already been abandoned.

In 1830 the village had a total of four houses with sixty-four, according to the denomination exclusively Greek-Catholic residents. The districts were named Talani, Blaževo Brdo, Draga, Potoki i Vodice. In 2001 a total of three residents lived in two households in the village.

The local Greek-Catholic residents are canonically part of the parish of St. Peter and Paul from Sošice , this parish in turn is under canonical law subordinate to the Vicariate of the Diocese of Križevci . The local residents earn their livelihood through agriculture, especially through viticulture and animal husbandry.
