Stars of Jazz

Stars of Jazz was a series of programs aimed at the presentation of jazz music that was broadcast between July 1956 and December 1958 on the American television station ABC .

The half-hour television programs Stars of Jazz were broadcast on Monday evenings from 9 o'clock; it was moderated by the singer Bobby Troup . Initially, Troups' program, sponsored by the Budweiser Brewery , was only broadcast locally in California (with guests such as Jack Teagarden , Paul Whiteman , Pete Jolly or Billie Holiday in 1956) until it was broadcast nationwide by ABC from early 1958 until the end of the year .

In the show occurred u. a. the Oscar Peterson Trio (with Herb Ellis and Ray Brown ), the Modern Jazz Quartet , otherwise West Coast Jazz musicians such as Art Pepper , Shorty Rogers , Bud Shank , Gerald Wiggins , Dave Pell , Don Fagerquist , Marty Paich , Shelly Manne , Buddy DeFranco , Frank Rosolino , Jimmy Giuffre , Jim Hall and Bob Brookmeyer . Furthermore, vocalists like Chris Connor , June Christy , Irene Kral , Nellie Lutcher , Jeri Southern , Carmen McRae , Peggy King and Julie London were presented in Stars of Jazz . The LP Bobby Troup and his Stars of Jazz ( RCA Victor , 1959) does not contain music from the TV show, but was recorded especially for the album.
