Stars of the Lid (SOTL) is an American music duo from Austin, Texas . Her musical focus lies in the area of minimalistic ambient sounds and is strongly influenced by drone elements (deep, continuous tones). Her influences include composers of classical and electronic music such as Arvo Pärt , Zbigniew Preisner , Gavin Bryars and Henryk Górecki . The style of post rock and the ambient innovator Brian Eno are further sources of inspiration .

biography

SOTL was founded in Austin, Texas in 1993 and consists of two members, Brian McBride and Adam Wiltzie. According to Brian McBride, the name of the band refers to the “very personal cinema program that takes place between the eyes and the lid”, whereby it probably refers to the colors, patterns and “stars” (so-called phosphenes ) that are temporarily visible with closed eyes become.

Adam Wiltzie currently lives in Brussels , Brian McBride in Los Angeles . In addition to their engagement with SOTL, both artists run various solo projects.

In 2008, a teaser for a planned and never realized Stars of the Lid film appeared on the Internet , in which the date was given as 2010.
