Hanns Rothbarth

Hanns Rothbarth (born June 27, 1904 in Dresden , † October 11, 1944 in Sachsenhausen concentration camp ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism and a communist.

Life

Rothbarth, a textile worker by profession, was a member of the KPD . In 1922 the climber joined the United Climbing Department of the Friends of Nature Association . In Dresden he was a member of the KPD city leadership. From 1927 to 1933 he worked for the Dresden Curtain and Lace Manufactory AG in Dobritz. After the seizure of power by the Nazis , he took part in the underground resistance. Rothbarth was arrested at the end of June 1936 and later transferred to Sachsenhausen concentration camp . There he was shot together with other communists in October 1944.

Rothbarth's relatives are buried in the Heidefriedhof in Dresden.

Honors

  • In his honor there is Hanns-Rothbarth-Straße in Dobritz . In addition, the 73rd Polytechnic High School in the Leuben district had his name until 1990 (now the Hoga School). There is also a memorial in the school yard to remind him of him. Behind the small open-air theater (on the right of the main entrance) the monument can be found between two conifers.
  • The children's home in Kletzke in the Prignitz was named after Rothbarth, who was rather unknown outside of Dresden . The then director of the home was a Saxon communist and knew him personally. The memorial stone erected in front of the home in the 1950s is on the list of architectural monuments of the municipality of Plattenburg .
