Stars on 45 is a medley by the group of the same name from 1981, which was produced by Jaap Eggermont and appeared on the album Long Play Album .

history

The basis for the medley was the mix Let's Do It in the 80s Great Hits by Willem van Kooten, which in contrast to the Stars on 45 Medley consists of Beatles songs mixed together . This inspired the producer Jaap Eggermont to release an official record. In order not to infringe on copyright , Eggermont had the individual songs performed by Dutch studio musicians based on the originals. This mixture was then tailored to the music genre disco . In the album version of the medley also an excerpt from is My Sweet Lord by George Harrison heard.

In the United States and Canada, the official title is Medley: Intro 'Venus' / Sugar Sugar / No Reply / I'll Be Back / Drive My Car / Do You Want to Know a Secret / We Can Work It Out / I Should Have Known Better / Nowhere Man / You're Going to Lose That Girl / Stars on 45 , since for copyright reasons one or more (depending on the use) titles by the Beatles must be listed there. The medley exceeded the track length of the hits Jeremiah Peabody's Polyunsaturated Quick-Dissolving Fast-Acting Pleasant-Tasting Green and Purple Pills by Ray Stevens and (Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song by BJ Thomas on the Billboard Hot 100 .

The release was in January 1981. In the United States, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and Spain, the million seller became a number one hit. After John Lennon was murdered, the demand for songs by the Beatles rose in commemoration, and Stars on 45 benefited from that too .
