The Start Point is a headland in the northeast of the Byers Peninsula at the western end of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 1.5 km southwest of Essex Point and marks the northeast boundary of the entrance to New Plymouth Bay and the southwest boundary of the entrance to Svishtov Cove .
The cape was discovered and named by the British navigator Edward Bransfield in 1820. It is named after the headland of the same name in the south of the English county of Devon and the fact that Bransfield began exploring the South Shetland Islands here.
