STARTRAMPE.NET was an information and communication portal for paraplegics and people who are in wheelchairs. On the one hand, the association of the same name pursued the goal of providing useful information for patients and relatives. So he offered, u. a. by doctors from the BUKH ( Berufsgenossenschaftliches Unfallkrankenhaus Hamburg ) in expert chats, a wide range of well-founded medical expertise. On the other hand, it enabled and promoted a dialogue between paraplegics and other interested parties. The platform was switched off in January 2017.

Emergence

The STARTRAMPE.NET eV association with its headquarters in Hamburg was founded on March 5th, 1999 by the honorary chairman Florian Seelmann-Eggebert (son of Rolf Seelmann-Eggebert ), who is still active today . Since a sports accident during his studies, Florian Seelmann-Eggebert has been severely paraplegic and has to rely on a wheelchair.

The platform

The internet platform is divided into three main areas. Firstly, it offers its visitors information such as an encyclopedia, reports and expert reports. Second, it provides forums, wall posts and chat functions. In 2000, one year after the portal was set up, there were 1,200 registered members, over 40,000 visitors and around 400,000 page views per month. Currently (as of October 2012) around 6,700 members are registered. Consultant doctor from startrampe.net and one of the contacts in the expert chat is the head of the paraplegic center of the BUK Hamburg and vice-president medicine of the German Disabled Sports Association , Roland Thietje.

reception

The platform gained attention through a commercial by Springer & Jacoby . ZDF also reported on the association and its initiator. Florian Seelmann-Eggebert was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon on December 4, 2004 . There was public approval from Wolfgang Schäuble and Ulrich Wickert .

petition

In December 1999 the STARTRAMPE.NET association published a much discussed petition . The founder Florian Seelmann-Eggebert demanded: "Away with the online fees for severely disabled people in Germany". The lack of freedom of movement often leads to a loss of social contacts. For many people with limited financial resources, the Internet is the gateway to the world and should therefore be accessible to them free of charge.
