The documentary startup.com accompanies the two founders of a dot-com company called GovWorks.com from brainstorming and starting a business to great success and the complete collapse of their company.
background
The idea for this documentary by the two filmmakers Chris Hegedus and Jehane Noujaim was to accompany the rapid development of a dot-com company. In 1998 and 1999 they accompanied the main actors Kaleil Isaza Tuzman and Tom Herman for over a year and were finally able to choose from over 400 hours of film material. Not only did the rise of the company develop from the original film, but also its downfall in a unique way. The main motifs of the film include not only the dot-com boom and the new economy , but also greed and egoism on the part of the main actors.
The film " World Market Leader - The Story of Tan Siekmann " by Klaus Stern , which documents the rise and fall of Tan Siekmann and his company Biodata , has a similar theme .
Awards
The film won nine prizes, including a KCFCC Award for Best Documentary.
