Klaus Stern (documentary filmmaker)

Klaus Stern (* 1968 in Ziegenhain ) is a German documentary filmmaker and filmmaker .

Life

Klaus Stern trained as a postman from 1984 to 1987 and delivered the post in Stadtallendorf . He then did his civil service in Marburg in 1988 and made up his technical diploma. He then studied business education and politics at the University of Kassel and graduated as a business teacher . His internship at HR sparked his interest in film. At HR he shot his first film "Live from Alabama". Since 1999 he began to make self-taught documentaries on recent German history and current topics. His preferred topics include people and stories that exemplify social rifts.

His first documentary was the 1999 film about the state chairman of the CDU in West Berlin, the politician Peter Lorenz, who was kidnapped in 1975 and entitled The Exchange - The forgotten kidnapping of Peter Lorenz .

In 2005 his documentary film World Market Leader - The Story of Tan Siekmann , a commissioned work for ZDF , was awarded the Herbert Quandt Media Prize of the Johanna Quandt Foundation, and in 2006 the Adolf Grimme Prize in the Information & Culture category. This film tells of the rise and fall of the new economy company Biodata AG , which developed security technology, was hailed as the star of Internet companies and was ultimately dropped by investors and brokers with great financial damage. His documentation Insurance Agents - The Amazing Career of Mehmet Göker received 1st prize of the Helmut Schmidt Journalist Prize 2012.

Klaus Stern lives and works in Kassel .
