Statue menhir from Frescaty
The statue menhir of Frescaty in the commune of Lacaune (also Lacaune-les-Bains; Occitan La Cauna ) in the Tarn department in southern France shows the classic attributes of the statue menhirs of the Midi : a mask-like face with tattoos or scars, a multi-link chain, bare breasts, the Hands over the middle body, a decorated sash, a flowing coat at the back and a pleated skirt. It can be seen in the Musée Saint-Raymond in Toulouse .
The largest collection of such menhirs in Europe can be found in the Lacaune region and in the adjacent Rouergue region. They can be explored on a 40-kilometer circular route. The approximately two kilometers to the east standing (Occitan Peyro Lebado - dt. "Erect stone") Pierre Plantée of Lacaune is with about 3.50 meters visible and 4.50 meters absolute height the largest statue menhir in Europe.
