Stavars hus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stavars hus ( Haus Stavar ) is located in Burs , in the southeast of the Swedish island of Gotland . From the east of the parallel paths that connect the villages of Rone and Burs, a side path leads to Hof Kärne. A complex of three house foundations is located about 400 m south of this farm on the coastal pastureland of Stavgard on the Bay of Bandlundeviken. With a length of 67 m, one of them is the largest preserved house floor plan from the first centuries AD in the entire Baltic Sea region.

The finds in the great house were richer than those usually found within an old Gotland house foundation. In a heap of rubbish in front of the house, fragments of Roman terra sigillata were found, which is unusual for this time in the north and points to far-reaching trade relations, as is documented for other sites from the Roman Iron Age in the Baltic Sea, e.g. B. Gudme on Funen , Stevns on Zealand , variety Muld on Bornholm , Dankirke near Ribe, Åhus and Helgö in Sweden.

Stavars hus is located at an old Viking harbor , which was right next to Herte (also Hörte), today's Burs beach.

Stavgard open air museum

The Stavgard open-air museum is located in the immediate vicinity of the house floor plan . It was founded in 1976 after a school class had found a hoard in 1975 that consisted of two silver spirals and 1,450 coins from Baghdad , Samarkand and Tashkent . It was buried in the 10th century and was located where, according to local legend, the Viking chief Stavar hid it.
