Stefan Bräse

Stefan Bräse (born November 30, 1967 in Kiel ) is a German organic chemist at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . He is a university professor and was u. a. Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biosciences at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) / KIT . He is currently director at the Institute for Toxicology and Genetics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Managing Director of the Materials Science Center for Energy Conversion (MZE) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Life

Stefan Bräse studied chemistry in Göttingen and Bangor / Wales . After his diploma and the subsequent doctoral thesis with Armin de Meijere in Göttingen, he worked as a post-doc at the University of Uppsala , Sweden, and at the Scripps Research Institute , La Jolla , USA . He completed his habilitation at RWTH Aachen University and was appointed professor at the University of Bonn in 2001 . Since 2003 he has been a professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . Stefan Bräse is married, has one son and lives in Karlsruhe and Troisdorf.

Stefan Bräse and his group research the synthesis of biologically relevant complex structures and nanostructures. In the laudation for the ORCHEM Prize , his outstanding contributions to organic solid phase synthesis, which opened up new opportunities for the development of biologically active compounds , were highlighted.

Further interests are in the fields of materials science , combinatorial chemistry and machine learning.

He is a co-founder of the cynora company.

Publications and Awards

Stefan Bräse has published over 500 publications as well as several books, for example Asymmetric Synthesis - The Essentials . He was Visiting Professor in Organic Chemistry in Madison , won the Lilly Lecture Award 2001, the ORCHEM Prize for Young Scientists in 2000, the Richard Zsigmondy Prize 1995 and was a DFG habilitation fellow.
