Armin de Meijere (born May 18, 1939 in Homberg am Niederrhein ) is a German chemist.

Life

Armin de Meijere studied chemistry in Freiburg im Breisgau and Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1966 under Wolfgang Lüttke with the thesis The conformations of the lower biscycloalkyls. Investig. with the help of d. Vibrational spectroscopy, d. core magnet. Resonance ad electron diffraction method . After a two-year postdoc with Kenneth B. Wiberg at Yale University , he completed his habilitation in 1971 on "Representation and properties of new small ring compounds" and in 1974 became an adjunct professor in Göttingen. In 1977 he was appointed to a C4 professorship in Hamburg . In 1989 he succeeded his doctoral supervisor Lüttke in Göttingen.

De Meijere's research areas are the development of new transition-metal-mediated and -catalyzed reactions for the highly efficient synthesis of complex organic molecules with active substance character or of interest in bond theory, such as [2.2] paracyclophandienes or oligocyclopropane aggregates. He found palladium-catalyzed domino reactions and solved the so-called acepentalen problem.

To date he has written more than 700 scientific publications and given over 630 guest lectures. A total of 158 doctoral students and 80 postdocs and scientists worked in his working group. Ten percent of his former employees have embarked on a permanent university career themselves. In 2005, his chemical work was awarded the Adolf von Baeyer Medal from the Society of German Chemists . In 2009 he received an honorary doctorate from the Russian Academy of Sciences .

De Meijere is married and has two grown children.
