Stefan Groh

Stefan Groh (born May 13, 1964 in Ravensburg ) is an Austrian provincial Roman archaeologist .

Stefan Groh received his doctorate from the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz in 1994 . In 2002, Groh completed his habilitation in Classical Archeology at the University of Vienna. He has been employed by the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Vienna since 1996 and has been its deputy director since 2009.

His main research interests are in provincial archeology. Special attention is paid to the implementation of modern methods of archeology. Groh wrote his fundamental work on the Noric Municipium Flavia Solva , the Celtic-Roman cult site on Frauenberg near Leibnitz , the fort and vicus of Mautern / Favianis on the Danube Limes and on urban planning in Hellenistic-Roman Ephesus .
