Stefan Hartmann (historian)

Stefan Hartmann (born February 7, 1943 in Kassel ; died July 8, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German historian and archivist.

Life

Stefan Hartmann studied history, Slavic and German at the University of Marburg and at the Austrian Institute for East and Southeast Europe and received his doctorate in Marburg in 1969. After the archival state examination, he was archivist in the Göttingen State Archive Camp and in the Lower Saxony State Archive in Oldenburg , since 1979 he has worked in the Secret State Archive of Prussian Cultural Heritage in West Berlin and was promoted to archive director in 1989.

Hartmann's main research areas were the history of the Jews in Prussia, the Prussian constitutional and administrative history, the history of the German states and the social and economic history of East and West Prussia. Hartmann published more than 120 articles and 350 reviews.
